Making a Difference!

I wrote this poem!! What do you think?

There are many ways to make a difference in someone’s life.
You could help out with your kids, husband or wife.
You could also help out in many places,
by putting a smile on people’s faces.
I can make a difference by doing things like
teaching a kid how to ride a bike.
By doing some work for a person in need,
which may be to plant or pull a weed.
Making a difference doesn’t include a reward.
You shouldn’t expect to get an award.
You do it out of kindness and love.
This should make you feel peace like a dove.
I can make a difference.

A stove so cool, it's a fridge!

Have you ever heard of a stove that is also a fridge? I have because in the Popular Science October 2007 magazine it tells about this new invention. Paul Riley (the project director) hopes to have the invention built in two years. He would sell it for 30 to 40 dollars. He says that it I just a research project now and that he hopes to be producing a million Stove for Cooking, Refrigeration and Electricity (SCORE) in a year.

This is how it works. The fire heats the pressured air in one tube. The circulating water keeps the air cold in the other side of the tube. The sound made from the collisions drives a wire coil in and out on a magnet cylinder to create electricity. The water running over the coldest part of the tube makes it freeze so it can be used to keep food cold.

I think that SCORE is a great invention. I hope that Paul Riley carries on his invention and makes it known to the world. I would defiantly buy the product if it was available. It is a very useful item to have around. I would love to see one in real life.

The SCORE is a great invention because it is very efficient. It is efficient by producing a way to generate electricity. It is very useful to have around because it has three devices in one. It freezes, cooks, and refrigerates. It is also pretty cheap; it’s only 30 to 40 dollars. I hope that Paul Riley makes the device know to the world because I know people will really buy it.

So that is why I would buy the SCORE because it is efficient, it’s cheap and I know that I would use it. The SCORE is an amazing product that is a refrigerator, a freezer and is a stove at the same time. So the next time that you want to cook something that you have gotten out of your refrigerator or freezer, think of the SCORE.

End of School!

So, school is ending and summer is starting. I am totally excited. I have had a lot of fun doing Honors English. I also have learned a lot. Even though I am not the best at writing, I still feel that I have improved since the beginning of the year. I well keep in touch of all of my fellow classmates. I would be more excited for school to end if I knew which high school I was going to.

So, here is my situation. I am in the boundaries of Layton, but my mom got me a variance to go to Davis High School. So, I don't know which one I want to do. My closest friends are going to Layton High, but yet Davis in my mind is better. So, I don't really know which one I am going to. I hope to see all of my fellow Honors English classmates at either one of those schools. Here are some poems about school that I found off the Internet.

Great Expectations

It's time to say good-bye
Our year has come to an end.
I've made more cherished memories
and many more new friends.

I've watched your child learn and grow
and change from day to day.
I hope that all the things we've done
Have helped in some small way.

So it's with happy memories
I send them out the door,
With great hop and expectations
for what next year holds in store.

~unknown

Here is also another poem about the last day of school.

Hello, Summer! -- (A Last Day of School Poem)
by
Gregory K.

Goodbye classroom!
Goodbye Teach!
You can find me at the beach...
Or in the park or at the pool
Or any place that isn’t school.

Goodbye quizzes!
Bye, reports!
Hello days packed full of sports
And days when I’m just lazybones
While eating melty ice cream cones.

Goodbye homework --
Lunchroom, too.
There’s so, so much I wanna do.
I know the school year flew on past…
But please, please summer -- last and last.

So, I really like those poems. I understand that this is my second last blog that I will be writing for Honors English. I just wanted to say goodbye to all of my readers and thanks for all the great comments that you have given me on my blogs. I hope you have a great summer and keep in touch.

Compare Books

Scout and Salamanca are both alike and different in many ways. They are alike because they both learn the same life lesson. They are different because they both don’t learn that life principle in the same life situation. Here is an example why they are alike.

Scout and Salamanca are alike in that they both learn that they don’t really know a person unless they have lived how they have lived and been in their life situations. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout learns that lesson from Atticus when he says, “You never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them.” That is a good life lesson that I think that a lot of people should follow. It helps people understand situations that other people are facing. It will also help people to not judge. In Walk Two Moons, Salamanca learns the same type of lesson when her neighbor leaves a note saying, “Don’t judge a man until you have walked two moons in his moccasins.” They are both alike, but they also have some differences.

The differences in Scout and Salamanca are that they grasp the same life principle but just in different ways. In To Kill a Mocking Bird, Scout learned the principle by having her dad tell her and by having a good example showing her the outcome of what happens when you do judge. In Walk Two Moons, Salamanca learns the principle by reading an anonymous note quoting the principle. She only realizes and actually follows the life principle when she finds out about her mother’s son.

In conclusion the books To Kill a Mocking Bird and Walk Two Moons are very different and are alike. They learn the same life principle, but they learn it in different ways. I really enjoyed both of those books and I was very interesting to me to learn what people really went through and still go through now days.

Heritage Museum!

On April 29, 2008 I went to the Heritage Museum. In case you don’t know what that is I will tell you. It is a museum about the heritage of the city of Layton. In that museum there are a lot of cool artifacts and interesting facts.

Some of the cool artifacts were, the doll collection from Dona Petro, an old Pot Bellied Stove a really old calculator, stuff from old beauty salons, pictures of old trains, a steamer trunk, a native American baby cradle, an bath tub, old sewing machine from 1876, mantle clock, an old radio set, and my favorite a human hair floral pattern!! It kind of creped me out a little, but it sure got my attention.

Well, some of the interesting facts that came along with these amazing artifacts were that the baby cradle was over 100 years old, the pot bellied stove was used in Victorian houses, they used the stemmer trunk to hold their closes in them when on trips, the mantle clock was over 100 years old, the old bath tub was made of copper from 1875 and was used for many years. Also more facts were that the radio crystal set was from 1920 and was made for a two man set.

When I came home from the museum I realized that I had learned a lot of amazing facts about Layton city. There are lots more to learn of things that I haven’t even mentioned. You should totally check it out yourself.

We Thought We Were Alone Part 3

While we were sitting on the couch we then heard the front door handle jiggling, like somebody was trying to open it. Then I got a call. It was my mom she said that she was outside the front door and that we needed to open it. MAILEE and I relaxed a little so we bravely went upstairs and opened the door. With her at the door was my little cousin who went with my dad. My mom had brought him back to the house, so he could sleep. MAILEE and I talked to my mom for a while and explained that my dad and grandpa had checked the house and everything seemed to be okay.

We went back down stairs once my mom had left. My aunt and uncle wouldn't be getting back for about one half of an hour. So, we just waited and listened. About forty five minutes went past when we head their voiced upstairs calling our names. We went upstairs and quickly asked JAKE if he had put his laptop in his room. Luckily, he had brought his laptop back to his room. That's when my aunt had told us to hurry outside. She had told the limo driver to bring us home!! MAILEE and I were both so excited!!!!! We have never been in a limo and had only thought that we were going to look in it like we had done earlier that day, but no we were actually riding in it.

Riding in a limo is about the most awesome est thing ever. The limo driver opened the door for us and we sat on one of the many seat in there. In front of us was a little rack full of fancy wine glasses. My aunt had come with us to give directions to the driver. Then she said that her and my uncle had saved some chocolate covered strawberries and some sparkling cider for us. That was the best treat ever, eating great food in a limo. We then told her our story that had happened while she was out. She just laughed and made a joke.

We finally got back to my house. We thanked the driver and my aunt and headed back inside to my house. The night was over. That was the best and the worst night of my life. If you guys ever get a chance go drive in a limo don't pass that opportunity up. It is so cool.

So that's my story. We never found out if someone was actually in the house or not. That doesn't really matter to me. I just liked the experience. So what about you? Do have you ever had a cool experience kind of like mine? If you do I would love to hear it. Leave a comment and thanks for reading.

We Thought We Were Alone Part 2

We walked to the park and played there for about an hour then we went home before it got to dark. Once we got home we went down stairs and watched a movie until they had to go to be (this is where it gets interesting.)During the movie MAILEE and I kept on hearing noises coming from upstairs. We didn't really think much of it until it kept on happening and it was getting more distinct. Every time we would hear a noise we would get more and more scared. It was like watching a scary movie where you see a girl that is walking in a room where you know the scary monster is in there and you are just waiting for her to notice. MAILEE was getting even more scared so I just told her that it was probably the dogs just messing around up stairs. We kept on hearing the floor above us creak, like someone was trying not to be noticed by tiptoeing, but each crack was as loud as ever. So, I was getting tired of being scared so I checked outside the basement door (I was too scared to go upstairs) to see if the dogs were out there or if they were in the house. I carefully opened the door and called for the dogs. I saw them just playing outside. That is what made me really nervous. I quickly closed and locked the door. I told MAILEE what I saw and that is when we both started freaking out.

The clock struck 8:30 it was time for the kids to go to bed. We didn't want the kids to be scared so we bravely went up stairs (with screwdrivers in hand) and got them ready I didn't really notice anything different up stairs so we tucked them it and were heading down stairs. Then suddenly MAILEE remembered that JAKE asked us to put his computer away so we went in the kitchen to grab the laptop. When we got in there we realized that the laptop wasn't there. It was missing!! We quickly ran down stairs. That to us clarified to us that somebody was in the house. Now the question was that was he still in the house or was he gone? I grabbed my cell phone and hurried and called my mom. I told her what was going on. She said that she couldn't come over because she was in Salt Lake. She said to call my grandpa and ask him to come over and that she would call my dad the tell him.

About five to ten minutes went by before my family came over. Once they came the searched the house and help us find ways to lock the doors that didn't have a lock on them. We found the laptop in my uncle’s room. Then we went and checked on the kids one of the kids was crying hysterical! We just couldn't calm him down so my dad took him back with him. They told us that we would be OK and went back down stairs and restarted the movie to help calm us down.

Now, for part three you will just have to wait for next week’s blog. It just gets better and better as the night grows on.

We Thought We Were Alone!

What you are about to read is a true story. It happened to me two days ago on April 25, 2008 Friday. I am going to use fake names so that it will hide people's identity. I didn't really think that that day would be anything out of the ordinary. It all started at school during lunch. Some people were saying that I was all talk and never would do anything. They wanted me to go start a fight with someone. I didn't want to so it didn't happen. So they were getting mad at me and saying all this stuff to try to get me mad. Well, it worked I got mad, but instead of punching that girl I punched the person (BOB) who was trying to get me to fight. I apologized after and he was OK about it. So, that was the first thing that happened to me that was kind of weird, because I don't normally do that.

Well, school was out and I was scheduled to babysit for my aunt at 5:30. I didn't want to just sit around waiting for 5:30 to come around to I called a friend. She said that she couldn't hang out because she was grounded so, we just talked for a while. When it was about time for me to leave, I had an idea to ask her to come and babysit with me. So, I called my aunt to ask if it would be okay and she agreed. So, after some persuasion we got my friend's (MAILEE) mom to let her come help babysit. She came over at around 5 and we got everything ready to go.

When my aunt came (Abby) she was wearing a really pretty dress. On the way to her house she explained that she and her husband (JAKE) were going to dinner and then the symphony for their anniversary. For a surprise she hired a limo for the night. We got to their house and when the limo showed up when got to look around in it! It was so amazing I have never been in a limo before. The only downside was that I couldn't get to ride in it because they were late! Bummer!!!

We played outside with the kids for a while and ate some pizza that they had picked up for us. After that we decided to go to the park. We went outside and then we realized that someone had left the door open as soon as I was about to shut it their two dogs booked it down the street. Both MAILEE and I ran to get them. After we caught them, my friend noticed that there was a van parked in the road and there was a man in there. He was talking to two of the kids that we were baby siting. We hurry and went over to them. The man hurry and said that he was looking for a boy then hurried off(hum interesting...) We then told the kids to never talk to strangers and then we left for the park. We didn't have a key to the house so we just left it open while we were gone.

For part two you will have to wait for my next weeks blog to hear how it ends!

Hill Aerospace Museum

I went to the Hill Aerospace Museum on April 18, 2008. That museum was full of neat airplanes. They had over 70 airplanes (well, some were helicopters too.) I learned many interesting facts on each airplane while I was there.

Some of the things that I learned were that the first airplanes were started from 1903 to 1913. They used airplanes in World War 1 in 1914 to 1918. They had a model of the airplane that the Wright Brothers had. They also had many artifacts that people had used to build the airplanes.

Some other facts that I learned was that the Military had mascots. Some of the mascots that they had used were animals such as dogs and monkeys.

To me the most interesting things at the museum were an airplane called the SR-7. It is the fastest airplane in the world. On September 1, 1974 it traveled from New York to London, England in 1 hour and 55 minutes. My next favorite thing was information about the first girl pilots. 25,000 people applied and only 1,830 got accepted. 1,074 girls won their wings. Those women made us now days to be able to have girl pilots now.

So, in the end I thought the Hill Aerospace museum was very interesting. It had a lot of amazing facts and cool displays about aircrafts.

Why is yawning congagious?

Do you ever wonder why when you see somebody yawn you start yawning too? Well, there is a simple explanation for that. In this article it tells you the purpose of yawning. It also tells you why yawning seems to be contagious.

Here is the explanation for why we yawn is simple. When you see someone else yawn it just may be an empathetic reflex. The neutrons in your brain fire and cause you to feel what the other person is experiencing, even if you don’t actually feel the need. Some people say that yawning balances carbon dioxide and oxygen levels in the blood. Gordon Gallup theorized that yawns cool our brains so that they run efficiently.

I think it is good that we yawn. I also think that it is really neat that just by seeing somebody else yawn. We feel the need to yawn as well. It is cool that we feel what the other person is experiencing when they yawn. It is interesting that by doing such a simple thing, it helps our body.

It is good to yawn because it cools our brain so that it can function properly. We feel the need to yawn when we see other people yawn because it is an empathetic reflex. We are feeling what the person we saw yawning is feeling. We feel that because of the neutrons in our brain. Yawning is just so simple. You just stretch your mouth really wide. I mean how hard is that?

So, that is why yawning is contagious. We feel what the other person is feeling when that happens. That is also the purpose of yawning. To balance the carbon dioxide and oxygen levels in the blood. It also helps to cool our brain. So, the next time you yawn think of what the positive things that it is doing to help your body.

Benefits of Reading

Here is a riddle for you. What thing do you have to be able to do to use the computer, order off a menu, and write? Are you thinking? Well, here is a hint it starts and ends with a R. READ! That what is common, you have to be able to read to do all of those things. Reading can benefit you in many ways. Some of the ways are to help you with instructions, lets you use your imagination, and for pure enjoyment. When is the last time you followed a set of instructions?

When trying to make a new recipe or trying to learn to make something you have never made before, a set of instructions will be useful. Well, without reading you would not be able to know how to do what you want to do. Just think about it for a second. You have to read how much you ingredients you need to include and also the directions to prepare it. I personally am glad that I can read because without it I would not be able to prepare some of the meals that I like. My next reason why reading benefits us is because it lets you imagine what is going on.

Have you ever read a book that was turned into a movie? Well, I have and personally I did not like the movie as much as the book. The way that I imagined the characters to look were totally different rather than the way that the people in the movie looked. Reading books let you imagine what the scene looks like and how the characters are presented in the scene (chapter) that they are in. My last example is for pure enjoyment.

Have you ever been so bored that you just mope around the house doing nothing? Well, when that happens to you get a book or magazine out and just read. It is a great way to spend your extra time that you have doing nothing. It benefits you in two ways. One way is enjoyment and the other is it helps your comprehension, spelling, and grammar.

In conclusion reading benefits you in many ways. It gives you instructions on how to do something, it lets you use your imagination, and it gives you something to do when you are bored. If you think about it, you read everyday even when you do not realize it. You read the advertisements you see when you are driving down the street. When you look around the room you read posters on the walls of the room.

Movies Time

Most people in this world watch a lot of movies. If you think about it, just how many movie theaters are on this world? For each movie theater there is about ten to fifteen movies in each one. So how are these movies affecting us? In my opinion the way movies are affecting us are by their content (what is in them), how much time it takes to watch a movie, and the cost. Movies have a lot of inappropriate content

Maybe you have heard of this or maybe you have done it yourself, where the under aged kid/teen sneaks out to watch a rated R movie. Then the parent/guardian has to come and get the kid/teen because they figure out that they are missing and remember them talking about going to a movie. Well, if the content of most entertaining movies were not so inappropriate for people under the age of 18. Movies are getting worse and worse as years go by. Movies can also be very long.

The average movie is about 2 hours long. Just think what other things can you be doing in 2 hours that is more predictive. I can think of a lot of things like cleaning the house, going to work, spending quality time with your family. In fact just last night when I was watching a movie (Golden Compass) I was called to go baby siting. I said no because I did not want to finish the movie. Now that I think about it I would have rather gone baby sitting. Then I would be gaining money rather than not getting anything. Watching a movie in the theater can be a very expensive purchase.

It cost over 5 dollars just to go see a movie. It is even more when you are an adult. That would mean that a family of five people would have to pay about 25 dollars. That is 1/4 of 100 dollars!! And that is with out all the extra costs of popcorn, candy, and/or drink. That is what it would be watching it in a theater. If you would like to buy a movie at the store the price would very from 10-30 dollars depending on which movie it was.

In conclusion I think that watching movies are really affecting our lives a lot. They are affecting us by there content, price, and how much time it takes to watch a movie. So, the next time you are thinking about watching a movie, think about what I have said.

What is wrong with TV?

TV these days are effecting people a lot more than they used too. When I say people I am referring to children. Children imitate what they see on the TV screen, TV makes it seem like things are okay to do, when they really are not acceptable, and more and more people are watching, rather than doing something productive. TV is a big threat to children.

When I was younger, I would go over and play with my cousins. When we were bored, we would watch the TV show Power Rangers. After watching the show we would go outside and pretend that we were the Power Rangers. Now, I know what you are thinking, “What is wrong with that? Kids are just being kids.” Well, think of it this way, what if we just got done watching something inappropriate? That brings me to my next point.

There are more and more inappropriate shows on TV than there used to be. Children don’t know better and think that doing that what they saw on TV, not knowing that it is bad. Even some “kid shows” (cartoons) are setting a bad example by doing bad things. Take Loony Toons for example that is supposed to be a kid show. If you think about it there a lot of things on that show that you would not want you kids thinking are okay to do. Like the way the coyote tries to kill road runner, or the way Sylvester tries to eat Tweedy bird. Another example is Tom and Jerry. If you haven’t seen that, it is all about how Tom is trying to get Jerry and eat him. In the process of trying to catch him they hurt each other. Now, you don’t want your kid thinking that is okay to hurt someone when trying to catch someone. People spend too much time watching TV.

The average working American looks at 1,200 hours or more of TV and reads only about 5 hours per year. 1,200 hours! Wow, think how much time you are wasting on doing something productive. I am not saying that you cannot ever watch TV. TV is a great way to unwind and relax, but you should not watch too much of it on a regular basis.

In conclusion, I think that TV is affecting people a lot. Children imitate what they are viewing, TV is making inappropriate actions acceptable, and people are watching too much TV. So, the next times you sit down to watch TV with or without your kids consider what I have said about current TV viewing.

Penelope: A Loyal WIfe

Penelope: A Loyal Wife

Have you ever heard of a woman who was so loyal to her husband that people had to force her to remarry? I have and her name is Penelope. Penelope married a man named Odysseus. He went to fight in the Trojan War and never returned until about 10 years later (185 Hamilton, Edith.) While he was gone people thought he was dead. So, everyone wanted Penelope to remarry. Penelope did not want to remarry so she tricked people saying that she would marry a man once she was finished weaving. She would weave during the day then undo it at night. Finally someone caught her. Right when she was to marry Odysseus came back and killed everyone that tried to force her to remarry (Stewart, Michael.) Penelope possessed all the qualities that and ideal women in Greek mythology would have.

Penelope was a very loyal and devoted wife to her husband. She believed in him even though people were forcing here to remarry. She thought that he was alive when everyone else told her that he was dead. Penelope showed that when a man and a woman truly love each other, things in the end will all work out for the best. She could have chosen some of the other guys. He would have taken care of her and become the king. Then if Odysseus came back they would kill him. It was good that Odysseus came back when he came because she really didn’t want to get married again (Stewart, Michael.) She also was very intelligent.

Penelope was a very smart and beautiful woman. She was smart when she tricked the people saying that she would remarry when she was done weaving. She weaved during the day then undid it at night. That lasted about three days before someone caught her (Athena, Ailia.) She was smart to think of that plan to help stall so she could wait for Odysseus. Penelope was also very pretty. She had brown hair and dark eyes. Lots of men wanted to marry Penelope.

Any man in her village would want to marry her. An example of a man who wanted to marry Penelope is Telegonus (her son). He was the man that she would have married if Odysseus never came back. Actually in some myths about Penelope it says that she does end up marring him. And when Odysseus comes back Odysseus gets killed by his son so that he would not get in the way of his marriage with his mother (Athena, Ailia.)I don’t think that that myth of Penelope is very accurate compared to the other myths about her.

Penelope was a person who possessed all the qualities of Greek mythology woman. She was loyal and devoted to her husband; smart by tricking people so she wouldn’t have to remarry and is a very pretty person, so pretty that everyone wanted to marry her. So when you hear about Greek women who possess all the qualities of Greek mythology, think of Penelope the wife of Odysseus.

Something to Think About

Read this it really makes you think about like and how we spend our time. Think about this for while then give post a comment and tell me what you think.

*Funny how a $100 "looks" so big when you take it to church, but so small when you take it to the mall.
*Funny how long it takes to serve God for an hour, but how quickly a team plays for 60 minutes of a basketball game.
*Funny how long a couple of hours spent at church are, but how short they are when watching a movie.
*Funny how we can't think of anything to say when we pray, but don't have difficulty thinking of things to talk about to a friend.
*Funny how we get thrilled when a baseball game goes into extra innings, but we complain when a sermon is longer than the regular time.
*Funny how hard it is to read a chapter in the Bible, but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a best selling novel.
*Funny how people want to get a front seat at any game or concert, but scramble to get a back seat at church services.
*Funny how we need 2 or 3 weeks advance notice to fit a church event in to our schedule, but can adjust our schedule for other events at the last moment.
*Funny how hard it is for people to learn a simple gospel well enough to tell others, but how simple it is for the same people to understand and repeat gossip.
*Funny how we believe what the newspaper say, but question what the Bible says.*Funny how everyone wants to go to heaven provided they do not have to believe, or think, or say, or do anything.
*Are you laughing?
Are you thinking? ?
* Funny? No, it's Sad.....

Liteary Analysis

This story takes place in two countries. The countries are France and England. To me the theme of the book was to have a lot of good friends that will support you to the end. The theme of this passage that I have chosen is that family is a great thing and you should enjoy the time you have with that person while it lasts. It is good that Miss. Manette finally got to mean her dad after all of those years.

The Shoemaker - http://pd.sparknotes.com/lit/twocities/section6.html Page.47
He stared at her with a fearful look, and after a while his lips began to form some words, though no sound proceeded from them. By degrees, in the pauses of his quick and laboured breathing, he was heard to say:
"What is this?"
With the tears streaming down her face, she put her two hands to her lips, and kissed them to him; then clasped them on her breast, as if she laid his ruined head there.
"You are not the gaoler's daughter?"
She sighed "No."
"Who are you?"
Not yet trusting the tones of her voice, she sat down on the bench beside him. He recoiled, but she laid her hand upon his arm. A strange thrill struck him when she did so, and visibly passed over his frame; he laid the knife down' softly, as he sat staring at her.

In this passage Dr. Manette is in a prison. All he knows how to do is make shoes. Being in that prison has made him go crazy. He doesn’t recognize any of the people who come and talk to him. What he doesn’t know is that his daughter is alive. That is the same with Lucie (his daughter), she too thinks that her father is dead. As you read on, Lucie and her father reunite. This is a very significant passage to this story because without Lucie meeting her father all lot of things would have gone different.

The theme relates to the passage because they never knew each other and they were never a where that the person was even alive. Before Lucie met her dad she was very sad. When she finally met him she was so happy and from then on they mostly never left each other’s sides.

When I read this passage I felt love, sadness, and confusion from the characters. It relates to the theme by how they finally got to meet each other. They were sad at first and a little confused, but then they felt a great love between the two. And that is what family is all about, the love and care that the people have for each other.

To me the theme of the whole story is to make friends that are loyal to you and will always stay by your side until the end. This passage ties in to that theme because they were not just father and daughter, they were also great friends.

In conclusion I would like to say that that passage really got my attention and was very interesting to me. It was very good that they finally got to meet each other at last. They also had a very good relationship with each other

Skinny Science

This is what I wrote after I read in the Popular Science Magazine, March 2008. This artical was writen by Graeme Stemp Morlock.

Want to lose weight? Well, I got three easy steps to do just that. All you have to do is shake back and forth, spending a few days in a dark room asleep, or trick your brain by starving yourself, then eat an elixir with a PYY protein in it. If you do those three things it has been proven to lower weight. I am going to tell you about each of those three things.

Clinton Rubin, who is a biomedical engineer, found that if you gently jiggle rodents, it prevents them from getting fat. The vibrations somehow caused the bone-marrow stem cells, which usually turned to fat once animals get older, to become new bone. The other way was to spend a few days in a dark room and sleep. Cheng Chi Lee, a biochemist, experimented on mice by having them sleep in a dark room. They burned their stored fatty acids while doing that. The last way was to starve yourself, then eat an elixir made with a certain protein called PYY. Doing that tricks your brain into thinking that the body is eating regular food.

In my opinion I don’t really agree with the fact that that was tested on rodents not an actual human bean. I think that the idea of just doing those simple procedures is pretty neat. I also think that those scientists have to be pretty smart. I mean to even think of the idea to even try that out. It is just amazing how smart they are.

The results are most likely to be different for a human because first of all we aren’t the same size as the rodent. Second we aren’t even the same species! The test could actually be harmful to us, just because of the differences. Scientist has to go to a lot of schooling to be able to become a scientist. Doing those procedures are way easy and don’t take that much time to do.

In conclusion I think that it is pretty cool that we have scientist to figure out ways to lose weight. The ways are so simple! All you have to do is Shake, sleep, and eat elixir with PYY protein. Maybe you should try it, you never know. You just might lose a few pounds.

Wait to Drive?

This is my reasponse to this: Your state legislature is considering a bill that would require a person to earn a high school diploma before he or she could receive a driver’s license. What is your position on this issue? Write an essay to convince your state legislature to accept your point of view.

Don’t you hate traffic? Do you want a fewer chance of accidents? Well, if you said yes to both of theses questions, I have a solution for you. People should not receive a driver’s license until they have graduated from high school. There will be less traffic, less accidents, and people will become smarter. Wouldn’t you like there to be less traffic?

It seems like where ever you go these days you always have traffic. Either heavy or light, it is always there. If all people had to graduate high school before getting a license, there would be fewer drivers. Fewer drivers equal fewer cars to cause traffic. Also if we had less cars we would have a lower chance of accidents.

Most accidents are caused because of other cars. If we have a lower amount of drivers who were inexperienced, we would have a fewer chance of car crashes. Also, if people wait to get their licenses and get a high school diploma, then people in general will be smarter.

People will want and actually try to earn a high school diploma because everyone wants to drive. Students will have a reason to want to go to school. They will try their hardest to receive the privileges to drive. Pulse, since most people will have a high school diploma, they will do better in life by being able to get a better job, rather than just dropping out.

In conclusion I think that people should not receive a driver’s license until they have graduated from a high school. There would be less traffic, fewer accidents, and people would be smarter. I hope you understand why we should do just that.

Pass or Fail?

Your principal is considering a new grading policy that replaces letter or number grades on report cards with pass or fail. What is your position concerning this issue? Write a letter to your principal stating your position and supporting it with convincing reasons. Be sure to explain your reasons in detail.

Imagine you and another person were assigned to do a project. You spend a whole week perfecting until you got it just right. The other person on the other had only spent about one hour on the thing and didn’t really try his best. You turn it in and on your grade it says you both passed. How do you feel? Do you think that it is fair that you both get the same score? Well, I do not. Students should not be graded on either passing or failing. I have three good reasons to support this. One reason is students will not try their best to receive a good grade. Another reason is that there is no difference on a hard working student and a student who does an average job. Lastly, the C average student will be able to compete with a straight A student. You should work hard and do your best at all times.

Part of the reason that students work so hard is school is because of the great advantages and awards that they will receive in the future. When you get out of high school you are going to want to go to a good collage. If you do well in school then you might get a scholar ship to go to one of those places. You have the pride of being able to accomplish all that you have done the past years. If you lower the requirements on getting a good grade those people will not have to try their best to receive that. Even the average student will be able to get a scholar ship to the same school the hard working kid got. Now does that sound fair to you? There is not going to be a big difference between the types of student.

Working hard is not an easy thing. Some people don’t care about it and just do what they feel like at the moment. I personally can tell a distinction between the two types of people, but if you have the Pass or Fail grading system then you won’t be able to tell between the two. Collages will not be able to see which student was actually better.

Would it be fair that two students who are totally opposite from each other are able to compete for the same scholar ship? Collages will not be able to see which student was actually better. The C average student might be accepted rather than the student who actually tried their very best.

In conclusion students should not be graded by either passing or failing. They will not try their best, there would be no distinction between the two students, and the students will be able to compete for the same scholar ship.

Persuasive Essay!!

Imagine a world where everyone is fat. Just kidding, you don’t have to because it has already happened. Kids in our country need to be healthier. They need to eat better food, get more sleep, and be more active. Our country has over150 types of fast food places.

In the movie “Super Size Me” it tests kids by holding up pictures of famous people to see how many of them the kids could recognize. Out of all the pictures all of the kids could recognize Ronald McDonald. Now what does that tell you about kids these days? "Hundreds of millions of people buy fast food every day without giving it much thought, unaware of the subtle and not so subtle ramifications of their purchases," writes the National Magazine Award-winning Schlosser. "They rarely consider where this food came from, how it was made, what it is doing to the community around them. . . . The whole experience is transitory and soon forgotten." If kids would eat healthier food they would benefit in so many ways. They would be fit; they would have more energy, etc. Another way for kids to become healthier is to get more sleep.

The average kid needs 10 to 11 hours of sleep and they are getting only 9.5 hours. Kids without sleep become crankier, have less energy, and do not function as well. They do poorly in school and other activities. Sleep experts say that without enough sleep, kids' relationships with family and friends can suffer. And when sleep-deprived, babies and toddlers may not be as alert and open to the world as they should be. If kids do not have energy they will not be as active.

Being active is a great way to become healthier. The average person should exercise about 3 hours a week. There is no way that today’s kids are doing that. Just think about this. When is the last time you have seen kids playing outside on the jungle gym or swing sets in the summer? I hardly ever see that. They are usually playing video games or watching TV. I am not saying all kids are like this, just most of America.

So those are some of the reasons on why I think kids in America need to be healthier. They need to eat better food, get more sleep, and be more active. I hope after reading this you understand just why they need to do that.

So what did you think? Did I everything correctly? Please tell me by leaving a comment on what you thought about my persuasive essay. It would be really great if you did and would also help me a lot in the future. Thank you.

Persuasive Essay

This is my response to this situation.

In effort to save money, your local school board is considering getting rid of elective subjects, such as art, band, and auto mechanics. What is your position on this issue? Write a letter to a school board member stating you positions and supporting it with convincing reasons. Be sure to be able to explain your position in detail. (Just in case you are wondering, this is not true. This is just an assignment in Mr. Thompson's class.)

Dear School board,

Picture a school with a lot of different types of classes. As you walk through the hall ways you see students creating masterpieces, fixing cars, creating beautiful music. Now picture a school with just the basic classes like the following: Math, English, and Science. The students are taking test, listening to lectures, or in some cases sleeping. The students just enjoy classes like that and if that is all there was, school would be pretty boring and people would fail more often. If I had a school like that I would never pay attention.

I enjoy school. I like having to go to different classes and participating in their activities that they have, but if all my classes were just the basics I know I would hate it. Students like me would not enjoy school. It would be way boring because you would have no “easy” or “fun” classes. Students need a break to just do what they want. I am not saying that they should just goof around; I am saying that they should be able to take a class that they enjoy. Taking away those classes would make me not want to come to school because it is so boring, so then I would fail.

Students don’t pay attention as much to classes like Math, English, or Science, but they pay attention to classes that they choose and actually like. The more you pay attention to classes the more you will study. The more you study the better chance you will do good in the class. There fore if you do well in you classes you will more likely get an A and so on. Doing well in school is important to a student. It helps them in the future get a better job in life.

So in conclusion, I think that we should still have elective classes, rather than just the basics. Students will do better in class and will enjoy it. They would do better in life and get a better job. They will want to come to class more often. So, it you take those elective classes away students will more likely do the exact opposite of what was just said.

So what did you think? Did it persuasive you to keep the classes? Leave a comment telling me what you thought and how I can improve this essay. Also if you want to respond to this question go right ahead. Once you answered it let me know and I would like to read it.

The Talented Vitas

Picture someone singing in a really high voice, a voice so high that it is even hard for a girl to sing. Then, picture that person as a guy who is about 26 years old. I know what you’re thinking, that is not possible. I am here today to tell you that it is possible and the guy who can actually do this sort of thing is named Vitas. Vitas is a talented Russian singer. He has had many great accomplishments in his lifetime. Not many people have heard of Vitas, but that is probably because he is not from the United States.

Vitas was born in Latvia, that is a continent of Europe, but most people just say he is Russian because no one here in the US really knows were Latvia is. He does concerts everywhere you can imagine. He is really popular in China and most of Europe. He has done concerts in the United States, just not in Utah. Even though lots of people have never heard of him that live in the US, he is still very talented.

I have never heard a voice like Vitas’s in my life!! It is to incredible to even imagine someone like him. Vitas writes his own songs and sings them in a very high range. Even though he can sing high he can still sing in the range of a man. He performs all kinds of music such as: pop, opera, techno, and many more. But singing is not all Vitas is good at. Vitas has learned to speak all kinds of different languages. He speaks Chinese, English, Japanese, Russian, French and others. I guess that is useful since he goes on tour to those places. Part of the reason Vitas is so popular is the fact that he has had many great accomplishments in his lifetime.

Vitas had his first hit in 2000 when he was only 19 years old. When he was 21, he did a concert at the State Kremlin Palace as the youngest singer to ever perform on that stage. He currently has 8 albums and 12 music videos.

I personally love Vitas’s voice. My friends think otherwise. They say things like, “Vitas is a freak,” and things like, “Vitas gives me a headache.” I just don’t see that in Vitas. So, my reply is, “Yes, Vitas is a freak, but he sings like an angel.” He is the most talented human bean in the whole wide world. It is neat that he is Russian and has had many accomplishments. I hope after reading this you learned something about Vitas. If you want to see Vitas go onto YouTube and search Vitas Smile, Smile is the name of the song, then click on the guy in the white tuxedo and listen to him for a while. You won’t believe your ears. No matter how much you want to turn it off listen to it all the way through (or you can just look and listen to my blog.)

Cougar Facts!!

Some information on cougars!

Names:The large, tawny, long-tailed cat native to the New World probably has more common names than any other animal: cougar, puma, mountain lion, panther, painter, and catamount are the best known names in the United States, but several dozen additional names have been recorded across North and South America. All of the names refer to the same species of cat, whose current scientific name is Puma concolor couguar. The multiplicity of common names may have arisen from the extreme elusiveness of the cats, which made them very difficult to see and understand. Not until radio telemetry became available in the 1970s were wildlife researchers able to identify and track individual cougars to learn how they behaved.

Original Range:Cougars were native throughout most of the New World when European settlers arrived in the 15th century. Because cougars are powerful predators, settlers feared for their own safety and for their livestock. Cougars were hunted with dogs, harassed and persecuted until they were believed extirpated in the eastern United States and Canada by about 1900. Cougar populations in the West were also greatly diminished but have rebounded to some extent since the 1970s, when bounties on them were removed.

Characteristics:The Cougar has been described as Nature's Master of Silent Stealth and an almost Perfect Predator. They can sprint 35 mph in an ambush. Can jump 15 feet high & 40 feet broad jump. Can climb a tree and swim a river. Can kill a full grown deer & elk. And they can live up to 20 years.

Vision:They have binocular vision, which is important for depth perception and judging distances. Their eyes allow them to hunt both day and night.

Hearing:Cougars hearing is well developed and they are able to detect ultrasonic frequencies. The cup shaped rounded ears can move together or independently in the direction of sound to futher aid in hearing.

Smell:Cougars have a keen sense of smell and can easily follow scent trails. The back of the nasal cavity is densely packed with olfactory cells.

Sounds:Cougars make a variety of sounds including chirps, peeps, purrs, growls, moans, whistles and screams. Hear cougar sounds

Skull:The skull is short and rounded with powerful jaws and strong teeth. The heavy bones of the jaw and strong neck and shoulder muscles absorb the shock of attacking large prey.

Feet:Cougars have 4 toes on each foot. The front foot is larger than the back. They have 3 lobes on the back of the heel pad. Their large padded feet enable them to stalk without making noise.
Tracks:See Cougar Tracks: Cougar Tracks

Claws:Their claws are kept retracted, are extremely sharp and used for gripping prey.
Teeth:Cougars have 30 teeth. The canines are large and used for delivering a lethal bite. Their other teeth are specialized at slicing & shearing flesh. See Cougar's Teeth

Predatory Behavior:Cougars are solitary hunters, taking prey by ambush rather than long pursuits. They stay low to the ground and use available cover. Then when they get close enough, they explode with a powerful burst of speed and over take their quarry.

Diet:Deer are their main diet, but they will also accept smaller animals and birds.
Scat:See Cougar Scat: Cougar Scat

Home Range:Cougars are territorial and maintain their own home ranges. Sizes of these home ranges vary depending on the available prey and type of habitat. Usually males have the largest home ranges & it will overlap several females.

Reproduction:Cougars breed at about 2 years of age, with a gestation period of 3 months. The female raises the litter on her own, and teach them how to hunt and survive. The young stay with their mother until they are 17 to 23 months old, at which time they disperse and find their own territory.

Sad Story, Good Message

Motivating story to read - Another man's folly
.......He paid the price for another man’s folly.
One life gone, 2 people dead !
A mother is devastated, she is howling with pain, yelling all she can in that dark and dingy corner of her four by four kholi. There was nobody to hear her yell and not a soul to pacify her, because outside her shack is a long winding lonely road. There was no existence of mankind for miles and miles ahead. The wind was at rest, the leaves didn’t rustle and no resonance of a barking dog, silence filled the air. Loneliness was already killing her, but no one knows what made her cry?

Losing something you love with all your heart isn’t really the grief you can ever overcome. Radha lost her baby. Her only means to live. She saw her child getting crushed under a car in front of her own eyes. Blood was all over and the accident was terrible. One lonely night, she was walking down the street t get a breath of fresh air with her child cuddled tight in her arms. She walked a long time s till she saw the face of mankind (in the evilest form).

The whole time she walked with her child in her arms the only thing that worried her was Aryans (her son’s) future. What kind of a person will he be? Will he make me proud? How much light is life going to bring in his existence? She was imagining and feeling every day of the Child's growth, and what she had in store for him. But who knows what’s in store for us tomorrow, life can change in the splits of a second. Talk about destiny, all those dreams hopes and expectations were snatched away from her in an instant. Her smiles were frowns and her faith just crumbled, like a deal soul in a living, rather breathing body.

This is how it happened…. On that abandoned road, were a few streetlights barely sufficient? There was this one light that was visible from a distance, but as it came closer it got brighter and brighter. That light changed radha’s life into darkness forever. A speeding car came down that road, as if the driver had jammed the accelerator, cutting across the wind. He came at a speek of 110mph throwing beer bottles out of his half open window. He was definitely drunk, the speed took everything in its path. Just then, there was a loud cry, and silence set in again. The cry of a baby and no sight of a child.

Ironically the mother wasn’t hurt, not a scratch on a body, not a bruise on her arm. She opened her eyes and didn’t she Aryan, her vision was blur. After a few minutes when her sight cleared up she looked all over frantically for her baby, but alas! There was nothing. Just then she noticed something about then feet away it was blood draining into the gutter’s, and pieces of minced flesh, laying there saying so much without saying anything at all. The blood of her baby, the child who hadn’t even seen life,
He paid the price for another man’s folly. The same little child whose future was just being planned.
Simple, don’t drink and drive. You could take a life, but kill a number of people.

About Vitas!!

This is Vitas he is the most amazing singer in the whole entire world. He is a male soprano that can also be a tenor. I am not sure what the name for that is, but it is totally awesome!!! This is a little information about him and his life.

Early life and success
Vitas was born Vitalii Vladasovich Grachov on
February 19, 1981 in Latvia. He first appeared in Russia in December of 2000 with his hit Opera #2, which was notable for use of Vitas' surprisingly high-pitched and energetic countertenor voice.
He has a brother
Vladislav Mironich (Bладислав Mиронич) from the same father living in Tbilisi, Georgia born July 5, 1980.

2002-2003: Rise to fame
He had his solo concert at the
State Kremlin Palace which has established a record, playing to packed house on March 29, 2002, having been the youngest artist to perform there. Vitas got an invitation from Lucio Dalla, the composer, who created "In Memory of Caruso", to perform this famous song together with the author at the concert "San Remo in Moscow" held in the State Kremlin Palace. Vitas’ voice enchanted not only the audience but Mr. Dalla himself. So the composer invited Vitas to come to Rome to take part in the rehearsals of "Toska", the modern version of the legendary opera.

Vitas presented his second solo program "The Songs of My Mother" in the Concert Hall "RUSSIA", Moscow in November 2003. Two albums: "The Songs of My Mother" and "Mama" of the artist were released for the premiere. The album "The Songs of My Mother" included the songs which are considered to be the gold reserves of Russian pop-music. Another album "Mama" included only the new songs composed by Vitas. In March 2003 he gave 264 solo concerts in places including
Russia, Australia, U.S., Canada, Israel, Germany, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Belarus.

I personally have heard some facts about Vitas, but I am not sure if they are 100 percent accurate. This is what I heard: He speaks many languages including English (I have actually heard him sing in English. It was the song Blue suede shoes by Elvis. In my opinion he sounds better in Russian.) He is really popular in China and has done many concerts there. Vitas has been to the United States and done performances, but not in Utah unfortunately, at least I don't think he has. Vitas is not married and is only 26 years old.

Wow he is pretty amazing!! I heard him from my friend Alyssa (who I have talked about before.) She heard it from a friend and so on. So now I am leaving it up to you to tell you friends about Vitas. That would be totally awesome if Vitas preformed in Utah. I would totally go and watch him. Tell me what you think of him. Do you think he is cool? weird? amazingly talented? Leave a comment and let me know or just to the poll. Keep on checking my blog for cool new features on Vitas. If you want to see more of Vitas's videos just go on to you tube and search for him there.
