We Thought We Were Alone!

What you are about to read is a true story. It happened to me two days ago on April 25, 2008 Friday. I am going to use fake names so that it will hide people's identity. I didn't really think that that day would be anything out of the ordinary. It all started at school during lunch. Some people were saying that I was all talk and never would do anything. They wanted me to go start a fight with someone. I didn't want to so it didn't happen. So they were getting mad at me and saying all this stuff to try to get me mad. Well, it worked I got mad, but instead of punching that girl I punched the person (BOB) who was trying to get me to fight. I apologized after and he was OK about it. So, that was the first thing that happened to me that was kind of weird, because I don't normally do that.

Well, school was out and I was scheduled to babysit for my aunt at 5:30. I didn't want to just sit around waiting for 5:30 to come around to I called a friend. She said that she couldn't hang out because she was grounded so, we just talked for a while. When it was about time for me to leave, I had an idea to ask her to come and babysit with me. So, I called my aunt to ask if it would be okay and she agreed. So, after some persuasion we got my friend's (MAILEE) mom to let her come help babysit. She came over at around 5 and we got everything ready to go.

When my aunt came (Abby) she was wearing a really pretty dress. On the way to her house she explained that she and her husband (JAKE) were going to dinner and then the symphony for their anniversary. For a surprise she hired a limo for the night. We got to their house and when the limo showed up when got to look around in it! It was so amazing I have never been in a limo before. The only downside was that I couldn't get to ride in it because they were late! Bummer!!!

We played outside with the kids for a while and ate some pizza that they had picked up for us. After that we decided to go to the park. We went outside and then we realized that someone had left the door open as soon as I was about to shut it their two dogs booked it down the street. Both MAILEE and I ran to get them. After we caught them, my friend noticed that there was a van parked in the road and there was a man in there. He was talking to two of the kids that we were baby siting. We hurry and went over to them. The man hurry and said that he was looking for a boy then hurried off(hum interesting...) We then told the kids to never talk to strangers and then we left for the park. We didn't have a key to the house so we just left it open while we were gone.

For part two you will have to wait for my next weeks blog to hear how it ends!

Hill Aerospace Museum

I went to the Hill Aerospace Museum on April 18, 2008. That museum was full of neat airplanes. They had over 70 airplanes (well, some were helicopters too.) I learned many interesting facts on each airplane while I was there.

Some of the things that I learned were that the first airplanes were started from 1903 to 1913. They used airplanes in World War 1 in 1914 to 1918. They had a model of the airplane that the Wright Brothers had. They also had many artifacts that people had used to build the airplanes.

Some other facts that I learned was that the Military had mascots. Some of the mascots that they had used were animals such as dogs and monkeys.

To me the most interesting things at the museum were an airplane called the SR-7. It is the fastest airplane in the world. On September 1, 1974 it traveled from New York to London, England in 1 hour and 55 minutes. My next favorite thing was information about the first girl pilots. 25,000 people applied and only 1,830 got accepted. 1,074 girls won their wings. Those women made us now days to be able to have girl pilots now.

So, in the end I thought the Hill Aerospace museum was very interesting. It had a lot of amazing facts and cool displays about aircrafts.

Why is yawning congagious?

Do you ever wonder why when you see somebody yawn you start yawning too? Well, there is a simple explanation for that. In this article it tells you the purpose of yawning. It also tells you why yawning seems to be contagious.

Here is the explanation for why we yawn is simple. When you see someone else yawn it just may be an empathetic reflex. The neutrons in your brain fire and cause you to feel what the other person is experiencing, even if you don’t actually feel the need. Some people say that yawning balances carbon dioxide and oxygen levels in the blood. Gordon Gallup theorized that yawns cool our brains so that they run efficiently.

I think it is good that we yawn. I also think that it is really neat that just by seeing somebody else yawn. We feel the need to yawn as well. It is cool that we feel what the other person is experiencing when they yawn. It is interesting that by doing such a simple thing, it helps our body.

It is good to yawn because it cools our brain so that it can function properly. We feel the need to yawn when we see other people yawn because it is an empathetic reflex. We are feeling what the person we saw yawning is feeling. We feel that because of the neutrons in our brain. Yawning is just so simple. You just stretch your mouth really wide. I mean how hard is that?

So, that is why yawning is contagious. We feel what the other person is feeling when that happens. That is also the purpose of yawning. To balance the carbon dioxide and oxygen levels in the blood. It also helps to cool our brain. So, the next time you yawn think of what the positive things that it is doing to help your body.

Benefits of Reading

Here is a riddle for you. What thing do you have to be able to do to use the computer, order off a menu, and write? Are you thinking? Well, here is a hint it starts and ends with a R. READ! That what is common, you have to be able to read to do all of those things. Reading can benefit you in many ways. Some of the ways are to help you with instructions, lets you use your imagination, and for pure enjoyment. When is the last time you followed a set of instructions?

When trying to make a new recipe or trying to learn to make something you have never made before, a set of instructions will be useful. Well, without reading you would not be able to know how to do what you want to do. Just think about it for a second. You have to read how much you ingredients you need to include and also the directions to prepare it. I personally am glad that I can read because without it I would not be able to prepare some of the meals that I like. My next reason why reading benefits us is because it lets you imagine what is going on.

Have you ever read a book that was turned into a movie? Well, I have and personally I did not like the movie as much as the book. The way that I imagined the characters to look were totally different rather than the way that the people in the movie looked. Reading books let you imagine what the scene looks like and how the characters are presented in the scene (chapter) that they are in. My last example is for pure enjoyment.

Have you ever been so bored that you just mope around the house doing nothing? Well, when that happens to you get a book or magazine out and just read. It is a great way to spend your extra time that you have doing nothing. It benefits you in two ways. One way is enjoyment and the other is it helps your comprehension, spelling, and grammar.

In conclusion reading benefits you in many ways. It gives you instructions on how to do something, it lets you use your imagination, and it gives you something to do when you are bored. If you think about it, you read everyday even when you do not realize it. You read the advertisements you see when you are driving down the street. When you look around the room you read posters on the walls of the room.

Movies Time

Most people in this world watch a lot of movies. If you think about it, just how many movie theaters are on this world? For each movie theater there is about ten to fifteen movies in each one. So how are these movies affecting us? In my opinion the way movies are affecting us are by their content (what is in them), how much time it takes to watch a movie, and the cost. Movies have a lot of inappropriate content

Maybe you have heard of this or maybe you have done it yourself, where the under aged kid/teen sneaks out to watch a rated R movie. Then the parent/guardian has to come and get the kid/teen because they figure out that they are missing and remember them talking about going to a movie. Well, if the content of most entertaining movies were not so inappropriate for people under the age of 18. Movies are getting worse and worse as years go by. Movies can also be very long.

The average movie is about 2 hours long. Just think what other things can you be doing in 2 hours that is more predictive. I can think of a lot of things like cleaning the house, going to work, spending quality time with your family. In fact just last night when I was watching a movie (Golden Compass) I was called to go baby siting. I said no because I did not want to finish the movie. Now that I think about it I would have rather gone baby sitting. Then I would be gaining money rather than not getting anything. Watching a movie in the theater can be a very expensive purchase.

It cost over 5 dollars just to go see a movie. It is even more when you are an adult. That would mean that a family of five people would have to pay about 25 dollars. That is 1/4 of 100 dollars!! And that is with out all the extra costs of popcorn, candy, and/or drink. That is what it would be watching it in a theater. If you would like to buy a movie at the store the price would very from 10-30 dollars depending on which movie it was.

In conclusion I think that watching movies are really affecting our lives a lot. They are affecting us by there content, price, and how much time it takes to watch a movie. So, the next time you are thinking about watching a movie, think about what I have said.
