Liteary Analysis

This story takes place in two countries. The countries are France and England. To me the theme of the book was to have a lot of good friends that will support you to the end. The theme of this passage that I have chosen is that family is a great thing and you should enjoy the time you have with that person while it lasts. It is good that Miss. Manette finally got to mean her dad after all of those years.

He stared at her with a fearful look, and after a while his lips began to form some words, though no sound proceeded from them. By degrees, in the pauses of his quick and laboured breathing, he was heard to say:
"What is this?"
With the tears streaming down her face, she put her two hands to her lips, and kissed them to him; then clasped them on her breast, as if she laid his ruined head there.
"You are not the gaoler's daughter?"
She sighed "No."
"Who are you?"
Not yet trusting the tones of her voice, she sat down on the bench beside him. He recoiled, but she laid her hand upon his arm. A strange thrill struck him when she did so, and visibly passed over his frame; he laid the knife down' softly, as he sat staring at her.

In this passage Dr. Manette is in a prison. All he knows how to do is make shoes. Being in that prison has made him go crazy. He doesn’t recognize any of the people who come and talk to him. What he doesn’t know is that his daughter is alive. That is the same with Lucie (his daughter), she too thinks that her father is dead. As you read on, Lucie and her father reunite. This is a very significant passage to this story because without Lucie meeting her father all lot of things would have gone different.

The theme relates to the passage because they never knew each other and they were never a where that the person was even alive. Before Lucie met her dad she was very sad. When she finally met him she was so happy and from then on they mostly never left each other’s sides.

When I read this passage I felt love, sadness, and confusion from the characters. It relates to the theme by how they finally got to meet each other. They were sad at first and a little confused, but then they felt a great love between the two. And that is what family is all about, the love and care that the people have for each other.

To me the theme of the whole story is to make friends that are loyal to you and will always stay by your side until the end. This passage ties in to that theme because they were not just father and daughter, they were also great friends.

In conclusion I would like to say that that passage really got my attention and was very interesting to me. It was very good that they finally got to meet each other at last. They also had a very good relationship with each other
