What is wrong with TV?

TV these days are effecting people a lot more than they used too. When I say people I am referring to children. Children imitate what they see on the TV screen, TV makes it seem like things are okay to do, when they really are not acceptable, and more and more people are watching, rather than doing something productive. TV is a big threat to children.

When I was younger, I would go over and play with my cousins. When we were bored, we would watch the TV show Power Rangers. After watching the show we would go outside and pretend that we were the Power Rangers. Now, I know what you are thinking, “What is wrong with that? Kids are just being kids.” Well, think of it this way, what if we just got done watching something inappropriate? That brings me to my next point.

There are more and more inappropriate shows on TV than there used to be. Children don’t know better and think that doing that what they saw on TV, not knowing that it is bad. Even some “kid shows” (cartoons) are setting a bad example by doing bad things. Take Loony Toons for example that is supposed to be a kid show. If you think about it there a lot of things on that show that you would not want you kids thinking are okay to do. Like the way the coyote tries to kill road runner, or the way Sylvester tries to eat Tweedy bird. Another example is Tom and Jerry. If you haven’t seen that, it is all about how Tom is trying to get Jerry and eat him. In the process of trying to catch him they hurt each other. Now, you don’t want your kid thinking that is okay to hurt someone when trying to catch someone. People spend too much time watching TV.

The average working American looks at 1,200 hours or more of TV and reads only about 5 hours per year. 1,200 hours! Wow, think how much time you are wasting on doing something productive. I am not saying that you cannot ever watch TV. TV is a great way to unwind and relax, but you should not watch too much of it on a regular basis.

In conclusion, I think that TV is affecting people a lot. Children imitate what they are viewing, TV is making inappropriate actions acceptable, and people are watching too much TV. So, the next times you sit down to watch TV with or without your kids consider what I have said about current TV viewing.
