Penelope: A Loyal WIfe

Penelope: A Loyal Wife

Have you ever heard of a woman who was so loyal to her husband that people had to force her to remarry? I have and her name is Penelope. Penelope married a man named Odysseus. He went to fight in the Trojan War and never returned until about 10 years later (185 Hamilton, Edith.) While he was gone people thought he was dead. So, everyone wanted Penelope to remarry. Penelope did not want to remarry so she tricked people saying that she would marry a man once she was finished weaving. She would weave during the day then undo it at night. Finally someone caught her. Right when she was to marry Odysseus came back and killed everyone that tried to force her to remarry (Stewart, Michael.) Penelope possessed all the qualities that and ideal women in Greek mythology would have.

Penelope was a very loyal and devoted wife to her husband. She believed in him even though people were forcing here to remarry. She thought that he was alive when everyone else told her that he was dead. Penelope showed that when a man and a woman truly love each other, things in the end will all work out for the best. She could have chosen some of the other guys. He would have taken care of her and become the king. Then if Odysseus came back they would kill him. It was good that Odysseus came back when he came because she really didn’t want to get married again (Stewart, Michael.) She also was very intelligent.

Penelope was a very smart and beautiful woman. She was smart when she tricked the people saying that she would remarry when she was done weaving. She weaved during the day then undid it at night. That lasted about three days before someone caught her (Athena, Ailia.) She was smart to think of that plan to help stall so she could wait for Odysseus. Penelope was also very pretty. She had brown hair and dark eyes. Lots of men wanted to marry Penelope.

Any man in her village would want to marry her. An example of a man who wanted to marry Penelope is Telegonus (her son). He was the man that she would have married if Odysseus never came back. Actually in some myths about Penelope it says that she does end up marring him. And when Odysseus comes back Odysseus gets killed by his son so that he would not get in the way of his marriage with his mother (Athena, Ailia.)I don’t think that that myth of Penelope is very accurate compared to the other myths about her.

Penelope was a person who possessed all the qualities of Greek mythology woman. She was loyal and devoted to her husband; smart by tricking people so she wouldn’t have to remarry and is a very pretty person, so pretty that everyone wanted to marry her. So when you hear about Greek women who possess all the qualities of Greek mythology, think of Penelope the wife of Odysseus.

Something to Think About

Read this it really makes you think about like and how we spend our time. Think about this for while then give post a comment and tell me what you think.

*Funny how a $100 "looks" so big when you take it to church, but so small when you take it to the mall.
*Funny how long it takes to serve God for an hour, but how quickly a team plays for 60 minutes of a basketball game.
*Funny how long a couple of hours spent at church are, but how short they are when watching a movie.
*Funny how we can't think of anything to say when we pray, but don't have difficulty thinking of things to talk about to a friend.
*Funny how we get thrilled when a baseball game goes into extra innings, but we complain when a sermon is longer than the regular time.
*Funny how hard it is to read a chapter in the Bible, but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a best selling novel.
*Funny how people want to get a front seat at any game or concert, but scramble to get a back seat at church services.
*Funny how we need 2 or 3 weeks advance notice to fit a church event in to our schedule, but can adjust our schedule for other events at the last moment.
*Funny how hard it is for people to learn a simple gospel well enough to tell others, but how simple it is for the same people to understand and repeat gossip.
*Funny how we believe what the newspaper say, but question what the Bible says.*Funny how everyone wants to go to heaven provided they do not have to believe, or think, or say, or do anything.
*Are you laughing?
Are you thinking? ?
* Funny? No, it's Sad.....

Liteary Analysis

This story takes place in two countries. The countries are France and England. To me the theme of the book was to have a lot of good friends that will support you to the end. The theme of this passage that I have chosen is that family is a great thing and you should enjoy the time you have with that person while it lasts. It is good that Miss. Manette finally got to mean her dad after all of those years.

The Shoemaker - http://pd.sparknotes.com/lit/twocities/section6.html Page.47
He stared at her with a fearful look, and after a while his lips began to form some words, though no sound proceeded from them. By degrees, in the pauses of his quick and laboured breathing, he was heard to say:
"What is this?"
With the tears streaming down her face, she put her two hands to her lips, and kissed them to him; then clasped them on her breast, as if she laid his ruined head there.
"You are not the gaoler's daughter?"
She sighed "No."
"Who are you?"
Not yet trusting the tones of her voice, she sat down on the bench beside him. He recoiled, but she laid her hand upon his arm. A strange thrill struck him when she did so, and visibly passed over his frame; he laid the knife down' softly, as he sat staring at her.

In this passage Dr. Manette is in a prison. All he knows how to do is make shoes. Being in that prison has made him go crazy. He doesn’t recognize any of the people who come and talk to him. What he doesn’t know is that his daughter is alive. That is the same with Lucie (his daughter), she too thinks that her father is dead. As you read on, Lucie and her father reunite. This is a very significant passage to this story because without Lucie meeting her father all lot of things would have gone different.

The theme relates to the passage because they never knew each other and they were never a where that the person was even alive. Before Lucie met her dad she was very sad. When she finally met him she was so happy and from then on they mostly never left each other’s sides.

When I read this passage I felt love, sadness, and confusion from the characters. It relates to the theme by how they finally got to meet each other. They were sad at first and a little confused, but then they felt a great love between the two. And that is what family is all about, the love and care that the people have for each other.

To me the theme of the whole story is to make friends that are loyal to you and will always stay by your side until the end. This passage ties in to that theme because they were not just father and daughter, they were also great friends.

In conclusion I would like to say that that passage really got my attention and was very interesting to me. It was very good that they finally got to meet each other at last. They also had a very good relationship with each other

Skinny Science

This is what I wrote after I read in the Popular Science Magazine, March 2008. This artical was writen by Graeme Stemp Morlock.

Want to lose weight? Well, I got three easy steps to do just that. All you have to do is shake back and forth, spending a few days in a dark room asleep, or trick your brain by starving yourself, then eat an elixir with a PYY protein in it. If you do those three things it has been proven to lower weight. I am going to tell you about each of those three things.

Clinton Rubin, who is a biomedical engineer, found that if you gently jiggle rodents, it prevents them from getting fat. The vibrations somehow caused the bone-marrow stem cells, which usually turned to fat once animals get older, to become new bone. The other way was to spend a few days in a dark room and sleep. Cheng Chi Lee, a biochemist, experimented on mice by having them sleep in a dark room. They burned their stored fatty acids while doing that. The last way was to starve yourself, then eat an elixir made with a certain protein called PYY. Doing that tricks your brain into thinking that the body is eating regular food.

In my opinion I don’t really agree with the fact that that was tested on rodents not an actual human bean. I think that the idea of just doing those simple procedures is pretty neat. I also think that those scientists have to be pretty smart. I mean to even think of the idea to even try that out. It is just amazing how smart they are.

The results are most likely to be different for a human because first of all we aren’t the same size as the rodent. Second we aren’t even the same species! The test could actually be harmful to us, just because of the differences. Scientist has to go to a lot of schooling to be able to become a scientist. Doing those procedures are way easy and don’t take that much time to do.

In conclusion I think that it is pretty cool that we have scientist to figure out ways to lose weight. The ways are so simple! All you have to do is Shake, sleep, and eat elixir with PYY protein. Maybe you should try it, you never know. You just might lose a few pounds.

Wait to Drive?

This is my reasponse to this: Your state legislature is considering a bill that would require a person to earn a high school diploma before he or she could receive a driver’s license. What is your position on this issue? Write an essay to convince your state legislature to accept your point of view.

Don’t you hate traffic? Do you want a fewer chance of accidents? Well, if you said yes to both of theses questions, I have a solution for you. People should not receive a driver’s license until they have graduated from high school. There will be less traffic, less accidents, and people will become smarter. Wouldn’t you like there to be less traffic?

It seems like where ever you go these days you always have traffic. Either heavy or light, it is always there. If all people had to graduate high school before getting a license, there would be fewer drivers. Fewer drivers equal fewer cars to cause traffic. Also if we had less cars we would have a lower chance of accidents.

Most accidents are caused because of other cars. If we have a lower amount of drivers who were inexperienced, we would have a fewer chance of car crashes. Also, if people wait to get their licenses and get a high school diploma, then people in general will be smarter.

People will want and actually try to earn a high school diploma because everyone wants to drive. Students will have a reason to want to go to school. They will try their hardest to receive the privileges to drive. Pulse, since most people will have a high school diploma, they will do better in life by being able to get a better job, rather than just dropping out.

In conclusion I think that people should not receive a driver’s license until they have graduated from a high school. There would be less traffic, fewer accidents, and people would be smarter. I hope you understand why we should do just that.

Pass or Fail?

Your principal is considering a new grading policy that replaces letter or number grades on report cards with pass or fail. What is your position concerning this issue? Write a letter to your principal stating your position and supporting it with convincing reasons. Be sure to explain your reasons in detail.

Imagine you and another person were assigned to do a project. You spend a whole week perfecting until you got it just right. The other person on the other had only spent about one hour on the thing and didn’t really try his best. You turn it in and on your grade it says you both passed. How do you feel? Do you think that it is fair that you both get the same score? Well, I do not. Students should not be graded on either passing or failing. I have three good reasons to support this. One reason is students will not try their best to receive a good grade. Another reason is that there is no difference on a hard working student and a student who does an average job. Lastly, the C average student will be able to compete with a straight A student. You should work hard and do your best at all times.

Part of the reason that students work so hard is school is because of the great advantages and awards that they will receive in the future. When you get out of high school you are going to want to go to a good collage. If you do well in school then you might get a scholar ship to go to one of those places. You have the pride of being able to accomplish all that you have done the past years. If you lower the requirements on getting a good grade those people will not have to try their best to receive that. Even the average student will be able to get a scholar ship to the same school the hard working kid got. Now does that sound fair to you? There is not going to be a big difference between the types of student.

Working hard is not an easy thing. Some people don’t care about it and just do what they feel like at the moment. I personally can tell a distinction between the two types of people, but if you have the Pass or Fail grading system then you won’t be able to tell between the two. Collages will not be able to see which student was actually better.

Would it be fair that two students who are totally opposite from each other are able to compete for the same scholar ship? Collages will not be able to see which student was actually better. The C average student might be accepted rather than the student who actually tried their very best.

In conclusion students should not be graded by either passing or failing. They will not try their best, there would be no distinction between the two students, and the students will be able to compete for the same scholar ship.

Persuasive Essay!!

Imagine a world where everyone is fat. Just kidding, you don’t have to because it has already happened. Kids in our country need to be healthier. They need to eat better food, get more sleep, and be more active. Our country has over150 types of fast food places.

In the movie “Super Size Me” it tests kids by holding up pictures of famous people to see how many of them the kids could recognize. Out of all the pictures all of the kids could recognize Ronald McDonald. Now what does that tell you about kids these days? "Hundreds of millions of people buy fast food every day without giving it much thought, unaware of the subtle and not so subtle ramifications of their purchases," writes the National Magazine Award-winning Schlosser. "They rarely consider where this food came from, how it was made, what it is doing to the community around them. . . . The whole experience is transitory and soon forgotten." If kids would eat healthier food they would benefit in so many ways. They would be fit; they would have more energy, etc. Another way for kids to become healthier is to get more sleep.

The average kid needs 10 to 11 hours of sleep and they are getting only 9.5 hours. Kids without sleep become crankier, have less energy, and do not function as well. They do poorly in school and other activities. Sleep experts say that without enough sleep, kids' relationships with family and friends can suffer. And when sleep-deprived, babies and toddlers may not be as alert and open to the world as they should be. If kids do not have energy they will not be as active.

Being active is a great way to become healthier. The average person should exercise about 3 hours a week. There is no way that today’s kids are doing that. Just think about this. When is the last time you have seen kids playing outside on the jungle gym or swing sets in the summer? I hardly ever see that. They are usually playing video games or watching TV. I am not saying all kids are like this, just most of America.

So those are some of the reasons on why I think kids in America need to be healthier. They need to eat better food, get more sleep, and be more active. I hope after reading this you understand just why they need to do that.

So what did you think? Did I everything correctly? Please tell me by leaving a comment on what you thought about my persuasive essay. It would be really great if you did and would also help me a lot in the future. Thank you.
